A. TURN THE STEERING WHEEL SLIGHTLY WHILE STARTING THE CAR. THE STEERING WHEEL SHOULD BECOME LIGHT & RESPONSIVE AS THE SYSTEM BEGINS TO OPERATE

Q. TELL ME WHERE YOU WOULD FIND THE INFORMATION FOR THE RECOMMENDED TYRE PRESSURES FOR THIS CAR AND HOW TYRE PRESSURES SHOULD BE CHECKED.
A. REFER TO THE MANUFACTURE’S GUIDE, USE A RELIABLE PRESSURE GAUGE AND CHECK PRESSURES WHEN TYRES ARE COLD

Q. SHOW ME HOW YOU WOULD CHECK THE PARKING BRAKE (handbrake) FOR EXCESSIVE WEAR, MAKE SURE YOU KEEP SAFE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE.
A. APPLY THE FOOTBRAKE FIRMLY. DEMONSTRATE BY APPLYING THE PARKING BRAKE. AS I APPLY THE PARKING BRAKE IT SHOULD SECURE ITSELF AND IT IS NOT AT THE END OF ITS WORKING TRAVEL.

Q. OPEN THE BONNET AND IDENTIFY WHERE YOU WOULD CHECK THE ENGINE OIL AND TELL ME HOW YOU WOULD CHECK THAT THE ENGINE HAS SUFFICIENT OIL.
A. IDENTIFY THE DIPSTICK, PULL THE DIPSTICK OUT AND WIPE WITH A CLOTH THEN PUT THE DIPSTICK BACK IN AND TAKE IT BACK OUT. THE OIL LEVEL SHOULD BE ABOVE THE MINIMUM AND BELOW THE MAXIMUM MARKERS.

Q. OPEN THE BONNET AND IDENTIFY WHERE YOU WOULD CHECK THE ENGINE COOLANT LEVEL AND TELL ME HOW YOU WOULD CHECK THAT THE ENGINE HAS THE CORRECT LEVEL.
A. IDENTIFY THE HEADER TANK AND SAY IT WANTS TO BE ABOVE THE MINIMUM AND BELOW THE MAXIMUM MARKERS. YOU WOULD APPLY THE COOLANT WHEN THE ENGINE WAS COLD.

Q. OPEN THE BONNET AND IDENTIFY WHERE THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR IS AND TELL ME HOW YOU CHECK THAT YOU HAVE A SAFE LEVEL OF HYDRAULIC BRAKE FLUID.
A. IDENTIFY RESERVOIR AND SAY THE LEVELS WANT TO BE ABOVE THE MINIMUM AND BELOW THE MAXIMUM LEVELS

Q. TELL ME HOW YOU WOULD CHECK THE TYRES TO ENSURE THAT THEY HAVE SUFFICIENT TREAD DEPTH AND THAT THEIR GENERAL CONDITION IS SAFE TO USE ON THE ROAD.
A. THERE SHOULD BE NO CUTS OR BULGES IN THE SIDE WALLS, THERE SHOULD BE 1.6 mm OF TREAD DEPTH ACROSS THE CENTRAL ¾ OF THE BREADTH OF THE TYRE AND AROUND THE ENTIRE OUTER CIRCUMFERENCE.

Q. SHOW ME HOW YOU WOULD CLEAN THE WINDSCREEN USING THE WINDSCREEN WASHER AND WIPERS.
A. (turn ignition on if necessary) OPERATE CONTROL TO WASH AND WIPE WINDSCREEN.

Q. TELL ME HOW YOU WOULD CHECK THAT THE TAIL LIGHTS & HEADLIGHTS ARE WORKING.
A. (turn ignition on if necessary) OPERATE SWITCH AND TELL HIM YOU WOULD JUST WALK ROUND THE CAR.

Q. SHOW ME HOW YOU WOULD SET THE DEMISTER CONTROLS TO CLEAR ALL THE WINDOWS EFFECTIVELY; THIS SHOULD INCLUDE BOTH FRONT AND REAR SCREENS.
A. DIRECT THE AIR FLOW TOWARDS THE WINDSCREEN, TURN THE HEATER BLOWER CONTROL UP TO 4, TURN THE TEMPERATURE UP TO MAXIMUM AND OPERATE THE DEMISTER CONTROL FOR THE REAR WINDOW.

Q. TELL ME HOW YOU WOULD KNOW IF THERE WAS A FAULT WITH YOUR ANTI LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM.
A. WARNING LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE IF THERE WAS A FAULT WITH THE ANTI LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM

Q. SHOW ME HOW YOU WOULD SWITCH YOUR HEADLIGHT FROM DIPPED TO MAIN BEAM AND EXPLAIN HOW YOU WOULD KNOW THE MIAN BEAM IS ON WHILST INSIDE THE CAR
A. (Turn ignition on if necessary) TURN DIPPED HEADLIGHTS ON, THEN MAIN BEAM AND CHECK WITH MAIN BEAM WARNING LIGHT.

Q. SHOW ME HOW YOU WOULD SWITCH ON THE REAR FOG LIGHTS AND EXPLAIN WHEN YOU WOULD USE THEM.
A. (Turn ignition on if necessary) TURN ON DIPPED HEADLIGHTS THEN TURN ON REAR FOG LIGHTS AND SAY YOU WOULD USE FOG LIGHTS WHEN VISIBILITY IS REDUCRED TO LESS THAN 100 METRES

Q. SHOW ME HOW YOU WOULD CHECK THAT THE HORN IS WORKING
A. PRESS THE HORN IF YOU ARE OFF ROAD. IF NOT THEN IDENTIFY THE HORN AND TELL HIM HOW TO OPERATE IT.

Q. TELL ME HOW YOU WOULD MAKE SURE YOUR HEAD RESTRAINT IS CORRECTLY ADJUSTED SO IT PROVIDES THE BEST PROTECTION IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH.
A. THE HEAD RESTRAINT SHOULD BE ADJUSTED SO THE RIGID PART OF THE HEAD RESTRAINT IS AT LEAST AS HIGH AS THE EYE OR TOP OF THE EARS AND AS CLOSE TO THE BACK OF THE HEAD AS IS COMFORTABLE.

Q. IDENTIFY WHERE THE WINDOW WASHER RESERVOIR IS AND TELL ME HOW WOULD YOU CHECK THE LEVELS.
A. IDENTIFY THE RESERVOIR AND TELL HIM I CANT CHECK THE LEVELS SO I CARRY A SPARE BOTTLE OF WATER WHICH IS IN THE BOOT OF THE CAR.
